June 2024 · 4 minute read

DELROY Grant was convicted for sexually assaulting old age pensioners across London between 1992 and 2008.

Grant’s crimes will features in a new TV series called Manhunt, which airs on ITV on Monday, September 20, 2021.

Who were Delroy Grant’s victims?

Grant preyed on elderly women who lived alone, often attacking them in their beds at night, according to the Mirror.

He was held in connection with more than 100 sex attacks on pensioners in London, Kent and Surrey.

Retired DCI Colin Sutton – the same detective that caught Levi Bellfield, who murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler, said he believes Grant was responsible for more than 200 crimes against old people.

What did Delroy Grant do to his victims?

Grant would unscrew lightbulbs, switched off the electricity meter, and ripped out all telephone wires before tiptoeing to the bedroom where his victim was sleeping.

His victims ranged from 68 to 93, including 10 men.

He would sometimes gently kiss his victims and even leave without assaulting them, according to the Mirror.

One, partially-blind Cynthia Stephens, 93, “lost the will to live” after being attacked in her South London home in 2009. She died three months later.

A 88-year-old victim was sleeping alone in her bungalow in Orpington, Kent, when she heard a noise outside but thought it was her neighbour, who worked late shifts.

She remembers Grant wearing a balaclava and gloves and the torch he shone into her face.

“All of a sudden, I saw this figure at the end of the bed,” she said.

“He covered my face and mouth and I felt that I was being smothered. I could not breathe or see. He whispered, ‘Don’t scream, I won’t hurt you’.”

After taking her money and moving her to the living room, he raped her.

“He was really brutal. I just wanted him to stop, the pain was awful,” she said.

The woman, who suffered from osteoarthritis, had cuts to her lips and serious injuries to her waist and hips which required major surgery.

Another victim, who had just returned from a hospital stay, recalls being awoken in the early hours of August 1999 by a man shining a torch in her face as he removed the bulb from her bedside lamp.

The 88-year-old woman from Croydon said:” I was shocked, petrified, dumbstruck. I did not know what to do.”

He pulled her bed sheets, undid his trousers and grabbed her arms and placed them on his member.

The old lady later said: “I was terrified and shocked. I was just staring at his face, paralysed with fear – wondering how long it would go on for.”

Grant left the woman in her bedroom, ransacked the house then left.

In one instance, he even helped a victim to a chair then back to her bed while he was in her home and another described how he shook hands before leaving.

In one case he took a woman’s pulse, and after another attack he apologised saying: “I’m really sorry. I won’t do this again.”
