PHYLLIS Summers is a key character in the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless.

Various actresses have played the character in the past, though one has been the pioneer of Phyllis’ portrayal.

Who plays Phyllis on The Young and the Restless?

Michelle Stafford, 55, has played Phyllis Summers from 1994 to 2013, with a few gaps in certain years.

Stafford left and actress Sandra Nelson stepped in to play the role of Phyllis in 1997, but only played her for a year.

Stafford then came back in 2000 and 2013, stepping out again to play the role of Nina Reeves on General Hospital.

In 2014, Gina Tognoni became the new Phyllis on The Young and Restless, lasting just five years.

Stafford then left General Hospital and came back to reprise the role of Phyllis in June of 2019.

Amid her departure in 2013, Stafford told She Knows that her decision to leave was in part due to her wanting to pursue other projects.

“I love everyone on that show — the actors, the writers, the producers,” Stafford said.

“They are good people. They are all trying to make a good show, and I want that show to do well. I want it to soar!

“So the reason for leaving was that I just really wanted to do other things. Playing one character for 15 years is enough,” she added.

Who is Michelle Stafford?

Stafford is an American actress, screenwriter, and producer.

She has starred in TV shows such as Two Guys and a Girl, Diagnosis: Murder, and JAG.

The actress also appeared in the 1999 thriller Double Jeopardy.

Her role as Phyllis Summers earned her two Daytime Emmy Awards.

In 2013, Stafford created and starred in her own comedy web series, The Stafford Project.
