Who murdered Angela Samota and where is he now, according to Oxygen’s Murdered by Morning?

Angela Samota

Angela Samota

A 20-year-old student studying electrical engineering and computer science named Angela Samota was discovered dead in her off-campus apartment in 1984. After she hung up on her lover and stopped returning calls, she was discovered in her bed, bleeding and naked, by both him and the police. After being brutally murdered, Angela was raped. She was stabbed 18 times and passed away as a result of heart-related injuries to her chest.

Little did Angela Samota know that on October 12, 1984, when she went to the State Fair with her friends Russell Buchanan and Anita Kadala, she would come home only to be brutally killed.

Angela visited her lover later that evening after leaving the fair late. When she got home that evening, a man knocked on her door and asked to use the phone and the restroom. Ben, Angela’s boyfriend, claimed that she had contacted him to tell him about the man and made a commitment to call again. But that didn’t take place. Ben went to see her out of concern and discovered her brutally killed in her bed.

Angela’s lover Ben McCall, her friend Russell Buchanan, and one of the ex-boyfriends were the main suspects in the murder investigation. However, it was determined during the investigation that Angela’s attacker was a “non-secretor.” This eliminated Russell, a 23-year-old architect who lives close to Angela’s home, as well as Ben and the ex-boyfriend from the list of suspects. He was subjected to a polygraph test, which he passed, but he was also judged to be innocent.

How did Angela die?

In the lack of any solid leads, the Anglea Samota case quickly became cold. The killer wasn’t identified until many years later, when Detective Linda Crum utilised DNA evidence from the crime scene to compare with previously collected criminal records.

The system connected Donald Andrew Bess Jr. to the DNA evidence. Donald was serving a 25-year term on parole at the time of Angela’s murder. He was already incarcerated for a different, unconnected r*pe and assault case in 2008 when he was discovered to be connected to Angela’s murder.

Donald Bess was found guilty of Angela’s assault and murder by the jury based on all the testimony and DNA evidence. He was given the death penalty as his punishment. Donald appealed the court’s decision multiple times after the ruling, but none of them were successful. Currently 72 years old, Donald is a prisoner at the Texas facility Hospital Galveston. Although he is currently on death row, there is no scheduled execution date for him.
