Rosmarie von Trapp was a daughter of Georg and Maria von Trapp of the Trapp Family Singers whose story was told in the movie “The Sound of Music.”

The Trapp Family Singers

Rosmarie von Trapp was the oldest child of Maria von Trapp and her husband Georg von Trapp. Georg was a widow who had seven children from his marriage to his first wife Agathe. He and Maria married in 1927 and had three children of their own, Rosmarie, Lorli and Johannes. The Trapp family were singers in Austria when they came to the United States to escape the Nazi occupation, continuing their singing career in America. Maria von Trapp wrote a memoir about the family’s escape from Austria and their singing fame. The memoir was the basis for the Broadway musical and the 1965 musical film “The Sound of Music,” starring Julie Andrews. Rosmarie had a cameo in the movie walking across a road as Julie Andrews sings the song “I Have Confidence.” According to her obituary in VermontBiz, she had worked as a missionary and teacher in New Guinea and on a kibbutz in Israel and was a popular resident of Stowe, Vermont.
