LIL Nas X has been viciously trolled for calling out what he called the lack of “outrage” over skateboarding legend Tony’s “blood board” – after the rapper received backlash over his blood-filled “Satan Shoes”.
“Nah he tweakin” translates to “No he’s crazy” and has consumed the Georgia rapper’s Instagram comments.
On Wednesday, when the rapper griped on social media that his “Satan Shoes” were unfairly shredded as offensive by critics in the public square compared with Tony Hawk’s new skateboard decks – people have begun piling on with a “Nah he tweakin’” comeback.
The phrase went alight online with a barrage of comments repeating the phrase to its own hashtag… #NahHeTweakin.
@DJidlhnds scrolled through the lengthy number of tweets responding to the original and opined, “What in the actual reply hell?”
TONY HAWK’S BLOOD BOARDS
The pitch to drum up sales of Hawk’s skateboards was direct.
“Get the Liquid Death Skateboard infused with 100% real Tony Hawk today,” according to the Liquid Death Mountain Water website.
“Wow! Own your very own piece of Birdman!”
Hawk and the company sold out of all 100 decks partially made from a vial of his blood, according to the company’s website.
The success story and the bloody parallels irked the openly gay Lil Nas X, and questioned if other factors were involved.
He wrote: “now that tony hawk has released skateboards with his blood painted on them, and there was no public outrage, are y’all ready to admit y’all were never actually upset over the blood in the shoes?”
He added: “and maybe u were mad for some other reason?”
SATAN SHOES
Back in March, the rapper whose real name is Montero Hill, released a pair of black and red sneakers that worked alongside the New York-based art collective MSCHF.
They featured a bronze pentagram and an inverted cross.
They also cost $1,018 a pair, the price tag referencing the Bible passage Luke 10:18 that reads: “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”
As part of the limited-edition “drop” of 666 pairs of Lil Nas X’s Nike Air Max 97 shoe line, each sneaker’s rear air bubble sole was filled with red ink and “one drop” of human blood, according to MSCHF Product Studio.
SATAN SNEAKERS SUED
The shoes also included NIKE swoosh on the tip of the tongue of the shoes.
That drew a lawsuit from NIKE to take Lil Nas X and his collaborator MSCHF to court over the devilish footwear for trademark infringement, which Nas acknowledged on Twitter.
MSCHF went on to sell all 666 pairs for $1,018 each within minutes.
Nike stated at the time in the court papers that it “is in no way connected with this project” and accused Nas’ collaborator company of purchasing their shoes from them, altering them and then jacking up the price.
A federal judge agreed to issue a temporary restraining order forcing MSCHF from producing any more of the rapper’s sneaker line.
That didn’t stop the Hades hot sneakers from being sold on eBay for exorbitant prices, ranging from $2,000 to as high as $9,000 as the publicized legal battle rages on.
‘NAH HE TWEAKIN’ PHENOMENA
Following the “Nah he tweakin” traction, @ rap appeared to realize the popularity of their comment and the moment.
“Nah he tweakin” comments started flooding the biggest Instagram pages after #LilNasX commented on our #TonyHawk post about selling skateboards that is infused with his blood, Lil Nas X says “Nah he tweakin,” the Hip-Hop account added.
Criticism flew at the rapper for saying that Hawk’s blood dripped skateboards weren’t met with the same conviction compared to when his shoes were released.
“I don’t think it has to do with the blood per se more of you put blood in a shoe then had a religious reference on the shoe and you know a lot of older christans were not gonna be okay with ‘gay man making a mockery of their religion’ in their words [sic]. Tony hawk left religion alone,” @2Great2Fail responded.
Terrance Ford agreed: “…the blood alone wasn’t the issue; the Satanic references were what was too much to swallow. I’m gay, and to be honest, even I winced at that.”
