Jason Sudeikis credited ex Olivia Wilde for giving him the idea for his award-winning show “Ted Lasso.”
When “Ted Lasso” won Best Comedy Series at the 2021 Critics Choice Awards on Sunday, the 45-year-old star thanked Wilde and their children for the show’s inspiration.
“I want to thank my kids, Otis and Daisy, and I want to thank their mom, Olivia, who had the initial idea for this as a TV show,” Sudeikis, dressed in another hoodie, explained. “She was like, ‘You guys like doing that so much, you should do it as a movie or a TV show,’ and she was right!
“This has been a whack-ass year,” he continued, “and this [show] has been a wonderful vessel to hear people’s stories of forgiveness and redemption and healing and understanding.”
Sudeikis also took home the trophy for Best Actor in a Comedy Series, and his co-star Hannah Waddingham won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
After the show, 36-year-old Wilde tweeted her congratulations to Sudeikis and the “Ted Lasso” team.
“Congrats to Jason and the entire Ted Lasso family on your @CriticsChoice wins! @jasonsudeikis @hanwaddingham @brendanhunting @joekellyjk47 @VDOOZER! So happy for you guys,” she wrote. “I hope this means we all keep wearing hoodies when the ceremonies are in person next year.”
Sudeikis and Wilde called off their engagement last year after seven years. The two remain close and are amicably co-parenting their two kids.
Wilde recently flew to London, where Sudeikis is filming the second season of “Ted Lasso,” with boyfriend Harry Styles to spend time with Daisy and Otis. Page Six exclusively reported, however, that Sudeikis is still “heartbroken” over Wilde despite dating new girlfriend Keeley Hazell.
